A recent OECD report confirms what many have long suspected: mobile phones and social media are a big part of the problem behind students’ declining persistence and knowledge outcomes. The report shows that students who use their mobile phones in parallel with school work perform significantly worse.
This problem is compounded by the constant stream of distractions our digital devices bring us. With notifications, push notifications and endless scrolling content, it’s easy to lose focus and get interrupted.
Locked computers and Trelson Focus can offer a solution
By locking down computers to specific apps and websites, you can create a distraction-free environment where students can focus on their schoolwork. Trelson Focus helps your students to concentrate by blocking distractions, and at the same time benefit from the advantages of the computer.
The advantages of locked computers and Trelson Focus:
- Improved concentration: Students can focus on one task at a time without being distracted by social media, games or other apps.
- Increased efficiency: Students can complete their assignments faster and more efficiently when they are not interrupted.
- Reduced stress: Students feel less stressed and anxious when they know they can’t be distracted by their digital device. (Given the results of this report, it is also wise to not allow smart phones in the classroom).
Trelson Focus can be adapted to individual needs
Trelson Focus can be tailored to individual students by allowing or blocking specific apps and websites. The teacher plans and decides what the students should have access to.
Locked computers and Trelson Focus are not a one-size-fits-all solution
It is important to remember that locked computers and Trelson Focus are not a one-size-fits-all solution for all students. Some students may need more freedom and flexibility in their learning environment. We need to remember that we need to educate our young citizens who will have to be able to navigate a digital environment where the distractions are strong and far more enticing than the work task you have in front of you.
However, it is clear that distractions from digital devices are a major problem for many students. Locked computers and Trelson Focus can offer an effective solution to improve concentration, efficiency and results. Screens and concentration are a complex problem with no simple solution. However, locked computers and Trelson Focus can offer an effective method to improve student learning and achievement.
After all, the most important thing is that the teacher plans for and implements good teaching! Trelson can help, but the teacher’s work before, during and after a lesson is what will make the biggest difference to the students’ learning.
